Make Love, Not War

Jack&Marjorie Handbags

bag it!

1940s. Two lovers parted by WWII. Jack, a Navy man, ships off to sea. His love, Marjorie (in A-line coat, mink stole, and snub heels), waves good-bye to her departing hero.

Romantic, heart-wrenching, and — snap, snap — caught on camera, captured for all time.

Present day: Meghan Parsons (their granddaughter) and her partner, Manuel Opp, find the photos and are inspired to create Jack&Marjorie, a handbag line that evokes the romance of a bygone era — and Marjorie’s fashion sense.

This season, the duo has turned Army blankets, canvas camo, and military-issue leather swatches into clutches, satchels, and purses that are at once vintage and modern. Lace, silk, and brocade keep the bags from looking too rugged. Next up: men’s totes (Jack needs props, too).

And maybe clothing. Though Parsons believes in rationing supplies when it comes to beautiful design.

So only time will tell.
