Hecho Safety Manual
Warning: Hecho, opening just off Union Square tomorrow, could be dangerous to your health.
In order to avoid an agave-induced stupor at Joseph Manzare’s (Globe, Zuppa) bilevel resto pairing his passions of Japanese food and fine tequila, we recommend the following:
1. Pull up a chair at the light-wood sushi bar overlooking the first floor from the open kitchen. Groups should follow the yellowfin-printed paper upstairs to a wide sushi table, with low chairs made to resemble Japanese bathing stools.
2. Order sushi chef Masaki Sasaki’s purist, traditional rolls made with short-grain rice and red vinegar, or share robata-grilled bacon-and-scallop yakitori and small plates like steamed monkfish liver with grated chili daikon.
3. Absolutely do not try any of the premium-grade tequilas from every distillery in the town of Tequila, high-grade sakes, One-Cup cans of cold sake (sold in vending machines all over Japan), artisan cocktails, or pints of the Japanese and Mexican beers on tap.
Oh, whom are we kidding? It’s a lost cause.
