Once upon a time, the word “learning” triggered your yawn reflex. Chemistry class with snoozy Mr. Sellers. Calculus with mean Mrs. Oxley. Gym with creepy Coach Marshall.
Nowadays, you’re not above admitting that some education could do you good. Especially when it’s at Hawthorne Lane’s anything-but-dull cooking classes. Arrive at the restaurant at 10:30 Saturday morning (hey, it beats that 8 a.m. morning bell) and chat with classmates over mimosas (don’t try that in homeroom). Then roll up your sleeves for the lesson of the day, led by Hawthorne Lane chef Bridget Batson and owner David Gingrass.
On the syllabus: The Valentine’s Day Menu on February 12 guarantees to seduce your sweetheart with baked Hog Island oysters. At Asian Flavors on March 12, learn to make chicken-and-mushroom pot stickers. Prepare for the ultimate Fourth of July Feast at the Lobster Boil class on June 11. You’ll end the session by sitting down to the delicious meal you cooked with your co-chefs. So keep your eyes open.
You snooze, you lose.
