The sophisticated sweet shop recalls the Paris of your youth (even if you grew up in Ohio). Vintage apothecary jars brim with licorice and rainbow Jelly Bellies. Camembert chocolates, peas and carrots, and chocolate-covered Gummi Bears hit the sweet spot.
The pint-size mom-and-pop shop deals in old-fashioned American sweets, sours, gummies, and artisan chocolates. Retro candy jars line the shelves, and you fill your bag with whatever suits your sweet tooth.

This low-key joint sells tiny cocoa treats in 22 flavors like strawberry and Earl Grey.
Have your cake and eat it, too, thanks to pastry chef Jeffrey Johnson, who brings his homemade treats to your door. Specialties include a butter cake flavored with orange juice, zest, and a hint of spice; an English country apple cake with two types of cinnamon and a sugary top; and dense brownies dusted with vanilla-scented powdered sugar.
It’s hard to pinpoint one reason to love Tartine: Is it the flies-off-the-counter fresh-baked bread; the buttery morning buns; the ooey-gooey breakfast bread pudding; the giant, steaming lattes; or simply the people watching out the cafe’s corner windows? The answer: all of the above.

This Mission bakery cranks out warm, homemade cookies all day long. The soft, fluffy pillows with perfectly crisp edges come in flavors like toffee chip, oatmeal raisin, and banana walnut.
Baker extraordinaire Shinmin Li’s gallery is dedicated to her masterpiece creations made of sugar, eggs, and flour. If you can dream it up, she can bring it to life. Almost too pretty to eat.
This Berkeley ice cream shop is the brainchild of Chez Panisse protege Mary Canales. Everything is handmade on the premises, from the candies and cookies to the cones to the heavenly ice cream itself.
